Roadworks and traffic alerts for Swindon drivers

Where to check live and planned roadworks affecting Swindon: National Highways, One.Network, and Swindon Borough Council. Links to our M4 drivers' guide.

Swindon drivers are used to sharing the road with major schemes: M4 smart motorway maintenance, A419 dualling phases, town-centre utilities work, and housing development access roads. This hub lists the official places to check what is closed today and what is coming next week, so you can share one link instead of guessing from social media.

National Highways (motorways and strategic network)

For the M4, M5, and other trunk routes managed by National Highways, use Traffic England. You can see incidents, roadworks, speed restrictions, and cameras where published. That is the best source when social media rumours disagree.

Swindon Borough Council

Resurfacing, utility trenches, bridge maintenance, and town-centre schemes are advertised on the council website. Residents often receive letter drops for very local closures, but the definitive list for highway authority roads in the borough is still the council.

Council roadworks and closures

Search Swindon Borough Council for current roadworks and traffic orders.

Search swindon.gov.uk roadworks

One.Network (planned works map)

One.Network aggregates notices from many highway authorities and utilities. It is useful for seeing whether a closure is for water, electricity, or resurfacing, and for checking whether a diversion matches your journey. Not every small job appears instantly, so combine it with council pages for Swindon streets.

Park and ride and trains

When the A419 or M4 is slow, trains from Swindon and local buses may be quicker than sitting in a queue. See station parking if you drive to the station.

Reporting problems

Street lights out, potholes after resurfacing, or signs knocked flat can be reported to the council so they join a maintenance list. Use our report a problem page for the quickest route into Swindon Borough Council systems.
