Collection days
Collection days depend on your address. The council provides a calendar or postcode checker so you can see which day your black (general waste) and recycling bins are collected. Bank holidays can change the schedule – check the council’s waste pages for revised dates.
When to put bins out
Bins should be at the boundary (e.g. kerbside) by the time stated by the council – often by 7am on collection day. Don’t leave them out permanently; bring them in after collection to keep streets tidy.
Missed collection
If your bin was out on time and was missed, you can report it on the council website. They may arrange a catch-up or explain why it wasn’t collected (e.g. wrong items in the bin). For what goes in each bin, see bins and recycling in Swindon and what can you put in recycling bins in Swindon?.
Ordering bins and reporting problems
You can order replacement or additional bins through the council. Damaged or missing bins can be reported the same way. For bulky waste (e.g. furniture), see bulky waste collection in Swindon.
