Usually accepted in the recycling bin
Typical items include: paper and card (including newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes, clean cardboard); plastic bottles (e.g. drinks, detergent) and plastic pots, tubs and trays; metal cans (food and drink); glass bottles and jars. Items should be clean, dry, and loose – not in plastic bags. Lids can often be left on plastic bottles; check the council’s current guidance.
Do not put in recycling
Do not put in: plastic bags, film, or polystyrene; food waste (use food caddy or general waste as per council); nappies; textiles; electricals; batteries; or anything that isn’t on the council’s "yes" list. Wrong items can cause loads to be rejected and may lead to bins not being collected. When in doubt, put it in general waste or check the council website.
Garden waste
Garden waste is usually collected separately (brown bin or subscription service). Don’t put it in the recycling bin. See bins and recycling in Swindon for full details and collection days.
