What you get
Each household typically receives:
- One black wheelie bin or supply of refuse bags
- Two recycling boxes
- Indoor and outdoor food waste containers
- Reusable recycling bag
Collection days
From 25th December 2025, waste and recycling collection days moved permanently by two working days. Garden waste days did not move. Put containers out by 6am. See the bin collection day lookup guide for the council postcode checker and the day for your address.
What goes where
Use the council's waste wizard to check specific items. In general:
- Black wheelie bin: General household waste, collected fortnightly. Refuse bags, where used instead of a wheelie bin, are collected weekly.
- Recycling boxes and reusable bag: Paper, card, glass, plastic and cans, collected fortnightly
- Food waste: Food scraps in the food waste caddy, collected weekly
- Garden waste: A fortnightly subscription. See the council website
Ordering replacement bins
Replacement wheelie bins and food waste containers are free. Recycling boxes are charged. The council prices on 29th October 2026 were £9.00 for a 44 litre box with a lid, £6.50 without a lid, and £2.50 for a lid only. A concession applies if you receive Council Tax Support at 80% or higher (£7.00, £5.00 and £2.00). Deliveries usually take about ten working days.
