What is bulky waste?
Bulky waste is large items that don’t fit in your bin – e.g. sofas, beds, mattresses, fridges, freezers, wardrobes. The council’s service typically collects a set number of items per booking (e.g. up to five) and may list what they do and don’t accept (e.g. no builders’ waste, no hazardous items). Check the council website for the current list.
How to book and cost
Book online or by phone through Swindon Borough Council. You pay a fee per collection; the amount is on the council’s waste pages. You’ll get a collection date and instructions on where to leave the items (e.g. at the front of your property). Put them out on the correct day; the crew will not enter your home.
Alternatives
You can take bulky items to a household recycling centre (tip) if you have transport; some items may be recycled or reused. Don’t leave items on the street or in fly-tipping spots – that’s illegal and can lead to fly-tipping fines.
Information correct as of February 2026. Fees and what’s accepted can change. Check swindon.gov.uk before booking.
