How to find childcare
Use GOV.UK Find an Ofsted report to search by postcode and see Ofsted ratings for nurseries and childminders. Ask schools about breakfast and after-school clubs. Word of mouth and local parent groups (e.g. Facebook) are useful for recommendations.
What to ask when visiting
- Do you accept funded hours? (15/30 hours free childcare)
- What are the fees and what's included (meals, nappies)?
- How flexible are sessions? (full day, half day, term-time only)
- What's the staff-to-child ratio and staff turnover?
