What to look for in the run-up to Christmas
Swindon town centre and surrounding areas host Christmas events from late November. Typical offerings include Christmas markets, light switch-ons, and Santa's grottos. Exact dates and locations are announced each year by the council and venue operators.
Christmas markets
Christmas markets often appear in the town centre and at out-of-town venues. The Swindon Designer Outlet Village runs extended hours and festive stalls in the build-up to Christmas. Check their website for current dates. Other markets may be listed in our What's On section.
Light switch-ons
Swindon's Christmas lights are usually switched on in late November or early December. The event is often held in the town centre with entertainment. Check Swindon Borough Council's website or events listings for the current year's date and time.
Santa's grottos and meet-and-greet
Santa's grottos and meet-and-greet events are run by shopping centres, garden centres, and family attractions in and around Swindon. Some are free; others charge a small fee. Booking in advance is often required. Search What's On for "Santa" or "grotto" for current listings.
