The Magic Roundabout

Swindon's Magic Roundabout is one of Britain's most unusual road junctions – five mini-roundabouts arranged around a central island. It features in driver theory tests and has become a symbol of the town.

Great Western Railway

Swindon was the engineering heart of the GWR. Brunel and Gooch built the locomotive works here in the 1840s; at its peak, over 14,000 people worked there. The Railway Village and STEAM Museum preserve this heritage.

Honda

Honda's UK car plant operated in South Marston from 1985 until closure in 2021. It employed thousands and made Swindon a major automotive hub. The site is being redeveloped.

Swindon Designer Outlet

The Designer Outlet at Kemble Drive is one of the South West's largest outlet shopping centres, with 90+ brands.

Richard Jefferies

Author Richard Jefferies (1848–1887) was born at Coate Farm. His nature writing and childhood memoir Bevis are part of Swindon's literary heritage.
