Council car parks and on-street
The council's 2026/27 charge notice, in force from 21st June 2026, lists Monday to Sunday tariffs for town-centre long-stay parks (including Whalebridge, Bristol Street, Spring Gardens and Brunel West from level 4), town-centre short-stay parks (including Wyvern, Fleming Way and Brunel North) and Old Town parks (including The Planks, Bath Road, Prospect Place and Dammas Lane). Daytime charging is 8am to 8pm. That replaced the older pattern of charging Monday to Saturday and leaving many Sundays free.
On-street pay-and-display bays have their own plates. Commercial Road, Sanford Street and Harding Street are charged per 20 minutes. Do not assume a Sunday is free. Park and ride sites are not listed on that town-centre notice. Check the council page for the site you will use. The only way to be sure at the kerb is to read the sign.
Private car parks
Private car parks (e.g. at the Designer Outlet, retail parks) set their own rules. Some are free on Sundays; others charge every day. Always check the operator’s sign. See Parking in Swindon for an overview of where to park and parking rules in Swindon for restrictions.
