Getting there

By car

The hospital is on Marlborough Road (A345), in the north of Swindon. Use postcode SN3 6BB for sat-nav. Visitor car parks use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) – you can pay at a machine (cash or card) or pay on exit with contactless. Check GWH's parking page for current charges and concessions (e.g. for frequent visitors or patients having long-term treatment).

By bus

Swindon's Bus Company runs several services to the hospital. There are also buses from outside Swindon – check your local operator for times and routes.

By train

Swindon railway station is in the town centre, about 6 km (3.7 miles) from the hospital. From the station, it's a short walk to Swindon Bus Station, where buses run to and from the hospital.

By cycle

The hospital is on Swindon's cycle network. You can plan your route using the Swindon Bike Map.

Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre

The Accident and Emergency (A&E) department is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. For urgent or emergency care, patients enter through the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at the west entrance, which is open 7am–10pm. Outside those hours, walk-in patients use an out-of-hours entrance, also at the west entrance.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 999. For urgent medical advice when it's not an emergency, call NHS 111.

Visiting hours

Most wards have open visiting between 8am and 8pm, with a maximum of two visitors per patient at any one time. Visiting outside these hours may be possible – speak to the ward. Some areas have different arrangements:

  • Acute Cardiac Unit: No visitors 1pm–3pm (rest period)
  • Critical Care Unit: Speak to staff for visiting arrangements
  • Maternity: Restricted visiting – check with the ward

You can usually accompany someone to most appointments where appropriate. For the latest guidance, see GWH's visitor guidance.

Parking

North and West car parks use ANPR – pay at a machine or on exit. The Brunel Treatment Centre (BTC) car park is pay and display (coins only). Disabled parking is available. Parking income helps fund patient services and car park maintenance. See gwh.nhs.uk – Parking for charges, concessions, and disabled parking.

On-site amenities

The hospital has shops, a café, and other facilities. For a full list of what's available, visit GWH's onsite amenities page.
