What is a controlled parking zone?
A CPZ is an area where you need a permit or must pay to park on the street during controlled hours (e.g. Monday–Saturday 8am–6pm). Signs at the zone entry and on streets show the zone name and hours. Outside those hours, parking may be free unless other restrictions apply. Swindon has several CPZs; the exact streets and hours are set by the council.
Resident permits
If you live in a CPZ, you can usually apply for a resident permit to park in your zone. There may be a limit per household and a fee. Proof of address and vehicle registration is required. Apply through swindon.gov.uk – Parking.
Visitor and business permits
Some zones offer visitor permits (for guests) or business permits. Eligibility and how to buy them are on the council’s parking pages. Not all zones offer the same options.
Where are the zones?
Zone boundaries and maps are published by the council. They can add or change zones, so for an up-to-date map and list of CPZs, use swindon.gov.uk – Parking. If you’re not sure whether your street is in a zone, check the signs or contact the council.
