Who deals with noise?

Swindon Borough Council's environmental health team deals with noise that amounts to a "statutory nuisance" – ongoing or repeated noise that unreasonably affects your use of your home. They can investigate, ask the person responsible to stop, and in serious cases serve a notice or take court action. For one-off parties or out-of-hours disturbance, the council may still advise; for antisocial behaviour or emergency noise (e.g. violence), you may need to contact the police (101 or 999).

How to report

Contact the council via their noise nuisance pages or general contact. You may be asked to keep a diary of when the noise happens. The council will explain their process and what they can do. For other issues (potholes, fly-tipping, street lighting), use our Report a problem guide.

Bonfires and smoke

Smoke and smell from bonfires can also be a nuisance. See Can I light a bonfire in Swindon? for the rules and what to do if a neighbour's bonfire is affecting you.
