Wichelstowe

Wichelstowe is Swindon's flagship new development, south of the town centre. Delivered in partnership with Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, and Swindon Borough Council, it will eventually provide around 3,000 homes over roughly 20 years.

Phases and areas

Canalside – The first phase, largely complete, with canal-side homes and apartments.

Wichel Fields – A second phase with 182 homes: one to four-bedroom houses and apartments. Show homes and sales continue.

Orchards / Orchards Rise – A further phase with two to five-bedroom homes. Check the developer websites for release dates and availability.

Infrastructure

Wichelstowe includes new schools, community facilities, 200 acres of open space, nature trails, play areas, and sports pitches. A new M4 underpass improves access. Many homes come with electric car charging, solar panels, and wildlife-friendly features as standard.

Other developers and schemes

Other housebuilders active in Swindon include Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey, and Redrow. Sites and availability change – use Rightmove new homes and individual developer websites for current stock. See our first-time buyer schemes if you qualify for shared ownership or help-to-buy style support.

What to consider

New builds often come with NHBC or similar warranties. Check snagging before signing off, and understand service charges if you buy a leasehold property. For context on areas, see our Wichelstowe area guide and best areas to live.
