Memory Sing
Event Details
Description
Memory Sing is a place where people living with dementia their friends and families can meet, talk and sing a variety of songs they know and love, in a fun and friendly environment.
Practitioner: Val Weston
Val has a passion for bringing people together to sing, to create a sense of belonging, to have fun and make lifelong friends through music.
She has been conducting groups of Musicians in Swindon for over 40 years.
Highlights include: being MD for Lyneham Military Wives Choir, conducting at the Millennium Dome, The Symphony Hall in Birmingham twice as part of Music for youth finalists, and conducting the Voice festivals for Swindon Music Service at the Oasis which reached thousands of children and their families over the 20+ years Val headed the team.
Val was also awarded an Excellence in Teaching award from the Borough for her work in Swindon schools. Since retiring from teaching Val has immersed herself in music: working for the Music Service, conducting and teaching, and running choirs. Val is at the helm of Bigsingthing – a 60 strong community choir, Aldbourne Community Singers and Guys and Dolls – formerly the U3A choir.
If she’s not making music then she’s out walking the dog and spending time with her family. Running a Memory Sing group is a new venture for Val one which she is really looking forward to.
